KEW GARDENS 2007

I've finally put my pictures together from our first first sights trip to kew during the middle of autumn during the Henry Moore exhibition. There was some brilliant autumn colour to be seen. I liked the new bridge over the lake by John Pawson (above), its design is classically simple and wooden constuction very sympathetic to the surroundings.

The new alpine house was impressive too, it looked very delicate and, and remided me of a biodome structure. Both the bridge and this glasshouse were part of the new masterplan for redesigning Kew undertaken due to Kew being classed as a World Heritage site in 2003 by UNESCO. The plan by Wilkinson Eyre Architects aimed to bring cohesion to the Gardens many varied parts through a new circulation system that dissects the main vistas.

Here are a few of the most impressive trees that I saw. The grasses were also in full bloom.

A very old Gingko biloba

A wonderful European Larch- Larix decidua
Some cherry trees and chinese dogwood- Cornus kousa chinensis
